The Crow: Flesh & Blood (Crow)
by James Vance
from Dark Horse
In the midst of a rural land-rights struggle, federal conservation officer Iris Shaw is murdered in a bombing by a rag-tag band of right-wing activists. Little do her killers know that Iris wasn't their only victim and now, with the help of the Crow, Iris must exact vengeance not only for her own death but also that of her unborn baby. Raised from her grave and armed with cold-blooded hatred and a few deadly weapons, Iris hunts down her killers one by one. But if exacting ultimate pain is the goal, when does vengeance cross the line to brutality? And what is the price to the soul?
Crows in Our Hands
by John Paul Barrett
from Gaff Press
Paul and Tricia Barrett of Oregon had no particular interest in crows until one spring day in 1996 when a neighbor showed up with a tiny nestling in a cardboard box.
An extraordinary exchange of affection occurred and the couple fell in love with the little crow. They hand raised it as a wild creature and successfully released it several months later. They assumed their corvine experience was over, but in a couple of months another crow baby showed up, then another, and another, etc.
Five years later twelve crows had passed through their lives, leaving them with a profound respect for and a new understanding of the remarkably intelligent and personable "Corvus Brachyrhynchos," or Common Crow.
This is a 152-page, hand bound book of photographs, stories, lore and notes about the experience of raising and releasing a series of wild crows.
John Paul Barrett is the author of "Sea Stories - of Dolphins and Dead Sailors" and other books.
